Clarinetist Elizabeth Crawford is Professor of Music at Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana. An avid proponent of the E-flat clarinet, she has commissioned music for the instrument by composers Lori Ardovino, Jenni Brandon, Amy Kaplan and Scott McAllister.
In 2015, she transcribed Giuseppe Cappelli’s five 19th century works for E-flat clarinet and piano, available from Potenza Music. Her highly acclaimed CD of music for E-flat clarinet, Instant Winners, (Albany Records) praises her “impeccable intonation and technique, and vivid musical imagination.” (Fanfare Magazine Mar/Apr 2019).
In addition to her interest in music for E-flat clarinet, Elizabeth is a founding member of Violet, her duo with violist Katrin Meidell. Together they have commissioned over 130 new works for the ensemble, greatly adding to the repertoire of this underserved combination. A CD of music was released on the Albany Records label in February 2019, the first recording of its kind. Information about Violet can be found at https://www.duetviolet.com/.
Elizabeth is an ambassador for Steuer reeds.
